Privacy Policy for the Masjid Map iPhone App

Last updated: September 28, 2026

This policy explains what the Masjid Map app for iPhone (the "App"), made by Fajr Labs ("we", "us"), does with your information.

The short version

  • Your location is used only to find masajid near you and, if you use iqamah reminders, to notify you when you are near a masjid and its iqamah is coming up. Reminders only work if you allow notifications and set the App's location access to "Always"; you can switch them off in the App's Settings.
  • Your exact position stays on your phone. When the App looks up masajid near you, it sends only a rough area of about 3 miles (5 km).
  • There is no account, no advertising, no analytics and no tracking. We do not sell or share your information.
  • We only receive personal details when you choose to send us a message, a correction or a photo.

Your location

The App asks for your location so it can show the masajid closest to you, how far away they are, and the nearest ones when you tap the search box. It is not used for anything else.

To look masajid up, the App asks our database for the masajid inside a rectangle on the map. Before any request leaves your phone, that rectangle is widened to a fixed grid of about 3 miles (5 km; 0.05° of latitude and longitude), so the request shows only roughly which part of town you are in, never your exact position. Distances and the order of the list are worked out on your phone. When you browse the map, the App also requests the masajid in the area you are looking at, in the same way.

Iqamah reminders (optional). These are notifications telling you that you are near a masjid and its iqamah is coming up. They are controlled by the "Iqamah proximity reminders" switch in the App's Settings, and they only work if you allow the App to send notifications and set its location access to "Always" (in the App's Settings or in iOS Settings). With both allowed, iOS watches for you arriving within half a mile (about 0.8 km) of up to 20 masajid: your favorites and the ones nearest you. iOS does this watching itself, on your phone. When you arrive near one, the App refreshes prayer times for the surrounding area (again as a rough area, not by naming that masjid) and shows a notification if an iqamah is coming up. Notifications are created on your phone; we do not send them and we are not told when one is shown.

We do not keep a record of your location or build any history of where you have been. Like any website, our database and hosting providers keep routine request logs for a limited time for security and to keep the service running. These can include your IP address and the rough area of a request.

You can change or turn off location access at any time in iOS Settings. Without it, the map still works; you can browse and search for masajid yourself.

What you send us

The App only sends us personal details when you choose to:

  • Iqamah times and corrections. When you add or update a masjid's times, we receive the masjid, the times you entered, any notes, and your email address if you give one. We store this in our database to review and correct the map, and we receive it by email.
  • Timetable photos. If you attach a photo of a masjid's timetable, taken with the camera or chosen from your library, the App shrinks it on your phone first, which also removes its embedded details such as where it was taken. The photo is attached to the email we receive and is not stored in our database. The App only sees the photo you pick; it does not access the rest of your library.
  • Messages. When you use "Contact us", we receive your message and your email address if you give one.

Your email address is optional and is used only to reply to you. We keep submissions for as long as they are useful for keeping the map accurate. To have yours deleted, email us.

What stays on your phone

Your favorite masajid, your reminder settings and your map preferences are saved on your phone only. They are removed when you delete the App.

Services we use

We use a small number of service providers to run the App: a database host, a web host, and an email delivery service. Our data is stored in the United States. They process data only on our behalf, and only to provide their service to us, under terms that protect it at least as well as this policy does.

The map itself is drawn by Apple Maps. When you search for a city or zip code, the App looks up what you typed with Apple Maps; it does not send your location with it. If you tap for directions, the App opens Apple Maps or Google Maps (the app or its website) with the masjid's location, and that service's own privacy policy applies from there. Opening a masjid's website takes you to that site.

Children

The App is suitable for everyone and does not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, email us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

If the App starts handling information differently, we will update this page and the date at the top before that version of the App is released.
